Everything you need to know about the Tall Ships - Organisers of The Tall Ships' Races 2010 in Hartlepool have produced a glossy event guide in conjunction with one of the region's most prestigious publishers, Living North, packed with must-have information about the extravaganza.
The 145 page guide, which includes a comprehensive event programme, an A-Z listing of the Tall Ships fleet and a detailed site map is now on sale at various outlets. It’s available from Hartlepool's Maritime Experience, the Tourist Information Centre and Art Gallery in Church Street and from Hartlepool Borough Council's Civic Centre reception. The guide can also be purchased through the online shop on the Tall Ships 2010 website.
The booklet costs £4.00, but visitors who book car parking spaces ahead of the event will be able to buy it at the discounted rate of £2.00. Bookings for park and ride, blue badge holders and coaches can be made through the Tall Ships website, or through Hartlepool Connect on 01429 523636.
Marketing manager for the Tall Ships Races, Jo Cole said: "An enormous amount of planning and research has gone into the event guide and I am really pleased with the result. "We’ve taken this opportunity to include general visitor information to promote Hartlepool and the surrounding area. "It's a handy A5 size, which will be easy to carry and should provide visitors with everything they need to know. There are two fold out site maps at the back which provide "at-a-glance" locations for vessels, entertainment and food areas and much more."
The guide has been produced by Living North, which publishes a lifestyle magazine for the North East, as well as a range of regional guides and directories. Living North publisher, Julian West, said: "We are delighted with the publication and hope it acts as a valuable guide and treasured souvenir, as well as a lasting memory of this outstanding event."

Sponsorship Boost For Tall Ships - an organisation that is playing a key role in helping to regenerate the North-East economy has pledged its support for the Tall Ships' Races – Hartlepool 2010. UK Steel Enterprise (UKSE), the regeneration arm of Corus, has signed up as a bronze sponsor of England’s biggest free event this year. It assists areas affected by changes in the steel industry by providing loan and equity funding to growing businesses as well as offering high quality office and workshop accommodation at a number of key locations.
Regional Manager Simon Hamilton said: "UKSE is delighted to be a sponsor of the Tall Ships Races in Hartlepool. "We see this as a high-profile event that will allow a great town to show itself off to a wider audience and demonstrate all that it has to offer."
UKSE owns and runs The Innovation Centre on the town's Queen's Meadow Business Park. In addition to this physical presence, it has also assisted several local businesses. Across the wider Tees Valley, it also runs Kirkleatham Innovation Centre in Redcar. The Hartlepool centre is about to be expanded, with just under 20,000sq ft of office space being built on an adjacent site. This is on course to open in early summer 2011.
Mr Hamilton added: "We hope to use the Tall Ships Races in Hartlepool as an opportunity to introduce our expanded centre to people from outside the town in the hope that new businesses can be attracted."
Hartlepool Mayor Stuart Drummond said: "The Council has worked closely with UKSE over many years and I am delighted that this very positive relationship is continuing with their sponsorship of the Tall Ships Races. “The Tall Ships Races is set to be a spectacular event that will leave a lasting legacy, and it would be great if that legacy was to include new investment by businesses from outside the area impressed by what we have to offer."
Some of the highlights of the Tall Ships' 2010 event will include three nights of fireworks on August 7th, 8th and 9th, performances from Doves, Ocean Colour Scene and Echo and the Bunnymen and wealth of food and craft traders.

The Cleveland Philharmonic Choir and the Mowbray Orchestra.
Tickets are now on sale for an exciting evening of classical music to welcome The Tall Ships Races to Hartlepool this summer. Called "Behold, the Sea!" it takes place on Saturday, July 31st in the Borough Hall, Hartlepool at 7.30pm.
The programme is made up of some of the most significant marine-themed pieces: Britten’s four orchestral Sea Interludes from his opera Peter Grimes, Elgar’s song cycle Sea Pictures and Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony, of which this is a centenary performance. The concert features the Cleveland Philharmonic Choir and the fifty-strong Mowbray Orchestra and is conducted by John Forsyth, the Choir’s Musical Director.
There are also several exceptional solo performers: Anna Stéphany – who represented England in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition – will take the mezzo-soprano role in Sea Pictures, while A Sea Symphony will include two outstanding soloists: soprano Madeleine Pierard and baritone Dawid Kimberg, the South Africa representative in the Singer of the World event.
This is the first-ever performance in Hartlepool by the 120-strong Cleveland Philharmonic Choir, which draws members from all over the Tees Valley, including Hartlepool itself, and from Durham and North Yorkshire. Founded in 1968, the choir aspires to professional standards and has built an impressive repertoire which includes the most challenging works spanning five centuries of music. It has brought to the Tees Valley many prominent singers, including tenor Jeffrey Lloyd-Roberts and baritones Alan Opie and Sir Thomas Allen, who is also the choir's Honorary President.
The Mowbray Orchestra was established in 1991 as the professional chamber music ensemble of the Ripon St. Cecilia Orchestra. Its performances have earned it high acclaim and it is now in great demand to accompany choral societies throughout the North of England. Tickets for the concert cost £15 for adults, £12 for concessions and £2 for children and students. They are available from Hartlepool Tourist Information Centre in Church Square on 01429 869706 or from John Hillier on 01740 630736 or on the door.
